SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Saint Mary’s Gaels visit the San Jose State Spartans in a nonconference women’s basketball game Thursday night at the Event Center. Saint Mary’s (5-4) looks to rebound from a 79-33 road loss to Southern California on Tuesday. Edie Clarke led the Gaels in that defeat with eight points, two assists and two blocks. The Gaels’ season has been marked by close losses, including a double-overtime defeat to North Texas on Nov. 26. San Jose State (0-6) is still seeking its first win after a 80-54 loss at Washington on Monday. Gabriela Pato scored 11 points off the bench in that game, while Maya Anderson added 10 points. The Spartans’ six losses have come by an average margin of 19.8 points. The Gaels have shown an ability to win on the road this season, with victories at Wyoming and UC Riverside. The Spartans have played only one home game so far, a 75-60 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
