SHELBY, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Wofford women’s basketball team faces Gardner-Webb at Paul Porter Arena. The nonconference game, scheduled for 9 p.m. EST on Dec. 4, features programs with identical 2-5 records entering the week. Both have struggled against challenging early schedules. Wofford (2-5) looks to rebound from a 58-52 home loss to Georgia Southern on Sunday. Queen Ikhiuwu led the Terriers with 18 points and nine rebounds in that contest. Wofford’s season has been marked by inconsistency, sandwiching an 80-54 road win at UNC Asheville between double-digit losses. Gardner-Webb (2-8) is coming off a 63-53 home loss to Appalachian State on Monday. Amina Gray scored 22 points for the Runnin’ Bulldogs in defeat. Gardner-Webb’s two wins this season came against Hampton and UNC Wilmington, but the team has faced a gauntlet of power-conference opponents, including Virginia Tech. The Terriers will rely on Ikhiuwu inside, alongside Molly Masingale, who averages 11 points. Gardner-Webb’s offense flows through Gray, who is averaging a team-high 22 points per game. This is the final nonconference home game for Gardner-Webb before a three-game road stretch. Wofford hosts Charleston Southern on Saturday in its next contest.
