WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two of the Big East’s hottest teams will open conference play when the Villanova Wildcats visit the Georgetown Hoyas in women’s basketball on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Capital One Arena. Villanova (6-2) enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently an 81-59 road victory at West Virginia on Monday. Jasmine Bascoe led the Wildcats with 24 points and six assists, while Brynn McCurry added 21 points. The Wildcats’ only losses are to Princeton and Fairfield. Georgetown (5-2) has won four straight since an overtime loss at George Mason, including a 94-67 rout of Towson on Nov. 26. Victoria Rivera scored 20 points in that win, and Laila Jewett filled the stat sheet with 17 points, four rebounds and seven assists. The matchup features two efficient offenses. Villanova has scored 80 or more points in four of its wins, while Georgetown has surpassed 90 points three times this season, including a 93-point performance against Elon. This contest marks the beginning of the conference schedule for both teams. Villanova will look to carry its momentum from a dominant nonconference stretch into Big East play, while the Hoyas aim to defend their home court and continue their own surge.
