(Interstat) — The North Florida Ospreys and Georgia Southern Eagles, both looking to push their records above .500, meet in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Thursday at Hanner Fieldhouse. North Florida (3-4) arrives having snapped a two-game skid with a 56-53 home win over Campbell on Saturday. Alonya Waldon led the way with 17 points and five rebounds, while Dezuray McGill added 14 points and eight boards. The Ospreys’ three victories have come by a combined 11 points. Georgia Southern (4-3) enters on a two-game winning streak, most recently a 58-52 road victory at Wofford on Sunday. Shanti Simmons posted 16 points and nine rebounds in that contest, and Kayla Cleaveland chipped in nine points and six rebounds. The Eagles are 2-0 at home this season. The Ospreys have struggled on the road, with losses at Georgia, South Alabama, Tulane and Florida by an average of 34 points. Georgia Southern’s defeats have come against power conference opponents LSU and Florida State, along with Missouri State. This is the final nonconference tune-up for Georgia Southern before hosting Furman on Sunday. North Florida continues its road swing at UNC Asheville on Saturday.
