BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — The Cal State Northridge Matadors and Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners will open Big West Conference play Thursday night at the Icardo Center. Northridge (3-3) enters with momentum from a 106-43 rout of LIFE Pacific on Nov. 26, where Morgan Edwards scored 21 points and Rita Nazario added 19. The Matadors average 74.7 points per game but are 0-3 on the road this season, with those losses coming by an average of 26.7 points. Cal State Bakersfield (2-5) seeks consistency after a 63-78 loss at Arizona on Nov. 29. Maria Dias led the Roadrunners with 16 points in that contest. Bakersfield’s two wins came in a road sweep at Wichita State and Omaha last month, but they are 0-2 at home. The matchup pits Northridge’s high-powered offense against a Bakersfield squad allowing 66.1 points per game. The Roadrunners’ defense will be tested by a Matadors team that has scored 103 and 106 points in its two home victories. This is the conference opener for both programs. Northridge visits Pepperdine on Dec. 20. Bakersfield hosts Eastern Washington the same day.
