NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The undefeated Vanderbilt women’s basketball team will face a test from Virginia on Wednesday night at Memorial Gym. The Commodores (8-0) are off to their best start in years and are coming off an 84-71 home victory over BYU on Saturday. Guard Mikayla Blakes led the way with 27 points and six assists, while Justine Pissott added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Virginia (6-2) arrives after a dominant 92-59 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sunday. Guard Kymora Johnson posted 20 points, six rebounds and five assists in that outing, and forward Tabitha Amanze added 17 points and nine rebounds. The Cavaliers’ two losses have come against Nebraska and Maryland-Baltimore County. Vanderbilt’s early schedule has included wins over Oregon State and California. Wednesday’s game is a final nonconference tune-up before both teams enter league play. Virginia begins Atlantic Coast Conference action on Dec. 7 at Boston College. Vanderbilt opens Southeastern Conference play on Jan. 1 at Arkansas. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
