ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the South Carolina State Bulldogs visit the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in a nonconference women’s basketball game. Both teams enter Kimmel Arena with 2-6 records. South Carolina State looks to bounce back from a 66-45 home loss to Winthrop on Sunday. Feliah Greer recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in that defeat. UNC Asheville has dropped five of its last six, including a 74-67 loss at Furman on Saturday. Aileen Marquez led the Bulldogs with 20 points in that contest, while Nia Green added 15 points and three blocks. South Carolina State’s two victories this season came against non-Division I opponents. UNC Asheville’s wins are over Warren Wilson and Western Carolina. Following this matchup, South Carolina State hosts High Point on Friday. UNC Asheville remains home to face North Florida on Saturday.

(Interstat) — Journee McDaniel fell just shy of a triple-double with 12 rebounds and eight assists to lead the UNC Asheville Bulldogs to a 64-58 overtime victory over the South Carolina State Bulldogs in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday afternoon at Kimmel Arena. UNC Asheville, which was projected as a heavy favorite by analytics, improved to 3-5. South Carolina State dropped to 2-7. McDaniel added seven points and three blocks. Jamaria Freeman scored 16 points and Aileen Marquez added 15 for UNC Asheville. Shaunice Reed led South Carolina State with 17 points. The game was tied at halftime and required an extra period to decide. UNC Asheville hosts North Florida on Saturday. South Carolina State hosts High Point on Friday.
