BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — The UAB Blazers look to climb back to .500 when they host the struggling Southern Illinois Salukis in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday at Bartow Arena. UAB (3-4) is coming off an 82-61 road loss to Texas Christian on Friday. Eleecia Carter led the Blazers with 17 points and five assists in that contest, while Molly Moffitt added 16 points. Their most recent win was a 77-72 home victory over Southern Mississippi on Nov. 27. Southern Illinois (1-5) seeks to end a five-game skid. The Salukis fell 60-52 to Western Kentucky at home on Sunday, despite 19 points from Alayna Kraus. Indya Green added 10 points and three blocks. Southern Illinois’ lone win came against Division II Lewis on Nov. 4. The Blazers have shown a potent offense at times, scoring 79 or more points in three games this season. The Salukis have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 74.2 points during their losing streak. This is the first meeting between the programs.
