FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Interstat) — The University at Albany women’s basketball team, riding a four-game winning streak, visits Sacred Heart University on Wednesday afternoon at the William H. Pitt Center. The Great Danes (6-2) enter off a tight 65-62 road victory at Bucknell on Monday. Albany’s surge followed a 2-2 start, with its losses coming on the road at Syracuse and Rhode Island. The Pioneers (2-4) seek consistency after a 58-56 home win over Mercy on Nov. 25 snapped a three-game skid. Sacred Heart’s wins have come at home, but it faced a tough early schedule, including a road loss to then-Iowa State. Albany has relied on strong defense during its streak, holding three of its last four opponents under 53 points. Sacred Heart averages 53.2 points per game and will need to solve the Great Danes’ defense to pull an upset on its home floor. The game is the final tune-up for both teams before continuing their non-conference slates. Albany travels to Colgate on Monday, Dec. 8. Sacred Heart heads to Coppin State on Saturday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
