HOUSTON (Interstat) — Two Houston-area women’s basketball teams riding contrasting momentum will meet Wednesday when the Sam Houston Bearkats visit the Rice Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse. The Bearkats (5-1) enter on a four-game winning streak, most recently routing North American 92-43 on Nov. 25. Fanta Kone (9 points, 6 assists) and Aysia Ward-Strong (11 points, 5 assists) facilitated the offense in that victory, while Bryana Block scored a team-high 14 points. Rice (5-3) looks to rebound after a narrow 57-56 home loss to UCF last Friday. Despite the defeat, Shelby Hayes (17 points) and Dominique Ennis (14 points) provided scoring punch for the Owls. Sam Houston’s strong start includes its only loss coming on the road to TCU. Rice has experienced mixed results but owns a notable 70-56 road win over city rival Houston from Nov. 11. The game tips off at 7 p.m. CST on Dec. 3 at Rice’s Tudor Fieldhouse.
