PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Drexel Dragons look to get back above .500 when they host the struggling American Eagles in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday night at Daskalakis Athletic Center. Drexel (4-3) is coming off a narrow 57-55 road loss to Saint Joseph’s on Nov. 29, where guards Amaris Baker and Laine McGurk each played the full 40 minutes, combining for 42 points. The Dragons have shown resilience at home this season, posting a 2-1 record in Philadelphia. American (1-5) seeks to halt a four-game skid. The Eagles fell 63-54 to Yale on Nov. 26 despite a double-double from Charlotte Tuhy, who had 10 points and 14 rebounds. American’s lone win came in its season opener against Delaware State, and the team has struggled offensively, failing to reach 62 points in any of its five losses. The matchup pits Drexel’s backcourt strength against an American frontcourt led by Tuhy and Elizabeth Archer, who had 12 points and eight rebounds against Yale. The Eagles will need to contain Baker and McGurk, Drexel’s consistent scoring leaders, to have a chance on the road. This is the final nonconference tune-up for Drexel before it hosts Chestnut Hill on Dec. 16. American continues a difficult road stretch before hosting William & Mary on Dec. 7.
