MEAC Men’s Basketball Championship Preview: Delaware State Faces North Carolina Central NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — The Delaware State Hornets and North Carolina Central Eagles will meet for the third time this season with a season on the line Friday in the 2026 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship. The eighth-seeded Hornets (8-21) and fifth-seeded Eagles (13-17) tip off at 6 p.m. EDT at Norfolk Scope Arena. The winner advances in the single-elimination tournament. North Carolina Central swept the regular-season series, winning 72-63 at home on Feb. 9 and 74-60 in Dover, Delaware, on Feb. 28. The Eagles have won six straight in the series. Delaware State enters having won two of its last three, including a 75-70 overtime victory at Morgan State in its tournament opener Wednesday. Miles Webb led the Hornets with 18 points in 43 minutes. The guard is averaging 19.5 points over his last two games, including a 21-point performance in a 57-56 win at Maryland-Eastern Shore on March 5. North Carolina Central advanced with an 83-76 overtime win against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Thursday. Dionte Johnson scored a career-high 26 points for the Eagles. The guard averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 assists in the two wins over Delaware State this season. The Eagles have shown a higher offensive ceiling, averaging 73.5 points in their two victories over the Hornets. Delaware State, which averages a conference-low 61.7 points per game, will need another efficient performance from Webb and supporting scorers like Rahmir Moore and Ponce James to keep pace. Despite their records, both teams have recent experience in close games. Four of Delaware State’s last six games have been decided by five points or fewer. North Carolina Central has played in three overtime games since Feb. 14. The matchup features two of the MEAC’s top individual scorers in Webb and Johnson, setting the stage for a pivotal backcourt battle with a spot in the tournament semifinals at stake.
