Preview: Maryland Terrapins vs. Oregon Ducks in Big Ten Tournament CHICAGO (Interstat) — Two teams looking to salvage difficult seasons will meet when the 14th-seeded Maryland Terrapins face the 13th-seeded Oregon Ducks in a first-round game of the Big Ten Tournament on Tuesday. The matchup at the United Center pits programs with a combined 22-39 record. Maryland (10-20) enters having lost five of its last six games. Oregon (12-19) snapped a three-game skid with an 85-79 home win over Washington on March 7. The game is a rematch from Jan. 2, when Oregon defeated Maryland 64-54 in Eugene. This will be their first neutral-site meeting. Maryland’s hopes largely rest with sophomore guard Andre Mills, who is coming off a 30-point performance in a 78-72 loss to Illinois on Sunday. Over his last seven games, Mills is averaging over 20 points per contest, including a 39-point outburst at Northwestern on Feb. 18. However, the Terrapins have struggled offensively elsewhere, scoring 65 points or fewer in four of their last five games. Oregon counters with forward Kwame Evans Jr., who scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win over Washington. Evans has been a consistent presence, scoring in double figures in six consecutive games. Center Nate Bittle, who had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists against the Huskies, provides a key interior complement. Both teams have endured significant struggles in conference play. Maryland’s 10-20 mark is its worst regular-season record in over two decades. Oregon, in its first season as a Big Ten member, finished 12-19. The winner will advance to face fifth-seeded Ohio State in the second round on Wednesday. The Terrapins will need to find secondary scoring behind Mills to keep pace. The Ducks will look to build on their late-season momentum and defend better than their season average, which ranks near the bottom of the conference.
