Preview: Monmouth Hawks vs. Hofstra Pride in CAA Championship WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball championship and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid will be on the line Tuesday when the seed Monmouth Hawks face the top-seeded Hofstra Pride. The title game, set for March 10, 2026, at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, pits a surging Monmouth team (19-14) against a Hofstra squad (23-10) that has dominated the league for most of the season. The Pride swept the regular-season series, winning 67-64 in overtime on Jan. 10 and 73-57 on Jan. 31. Monmouth enters on a five-game winning streak, including tournament victories over Drexel and Campbell. The Hawks are powered by guard Kavion McClain, who is averaging 17.1 points and 5.2 assists over his last 10 games. He scored 19 points in Monday’s 74-64 semifinal win over Campbell. Hofstra advanced with a grueling 68-65 overtime victory against Towson on Monday. Guard Preston Edmead, the Pride’s engine, played all 45 minutes and scored 22 points. He has scored in double figures in nine of his last 10 contests, averaging 16.2 points per game in that stretch. The matchup features contrasting styles. Monmouth has found its rhythm in the tournament with high-scoring performances, putting up 89 points in a first-round win at Northeastern. Hofstra has relied on a stout defense, holding opponents to 65 points or fewer in four of its last five wins. Hofstra seeks its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2023. Monmouth, which last danced in 2006, is attempting a rare run from the seed to capture the conference crown. The winner will learn its NCAA Tournament destination during Sunday’s selection show. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
