MANHATTAN, Kan. (Interstat) — West Virginia looks to solidify its postseason résumé while Kansas State aims to play spoiler when the teams meet in a Big 12 Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Bramlage Coliseum. The Mountaineers (17-12, 7-9 Big 12) enter on the heels of a 79-71 home win over BYU, snapping a three-game skid. Guard Honor Huff, the team’s engine, scored 19 points with six assists in that victory and is averaging 18.1 points over his last seven contests. His backcourt play will be critical against Kansas State’s pressure. The Wildcats (11-18, 3-13) have lost seven of their last eight, including a 77-68 defeat to TCU on Saturday. Their bright spot has been guard Nate Johnson, who nearly posted a triple-double in that loss with 16 points and nine assists. Johnson is coming off a 33-point, nine-assist performance in a win over Baylor on Feb. 17 and poses a major all-around threat. West Virginia won the season’s first meeting, 59-54, in Morgantown on Jan. 27. In that defensive struggle, the Mountaineers held Kansas State to 32.8% shooting. The matchup features contrasting trajectories. West Virginia, despite recent struggles, remains in the conversation for an at-large NCAA tournament bid and cannot afford a setback against the league’s bottom-dwelling Wildcats.
