JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — Two SWAC men’s basketball teams seeking momentum to close the regular season will meet Tuesday when the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions visit the Jackson State Tigers at Lee Williams Athletic Center. The Golden Lions (12-17) enter the contest looking to rebound from a heartbreaking 70-69 home loss to Mississippi Valley State on Saturday. Despite the defeat, guard Jaquan Scott continued his strong play, scoring 26 points. Scott has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.6 points over his last nine games. He tallied 18 points in a dominant 84-63 win over Jackson State when the teams met on Feb. 9. Jackson State (9-20) aims to halt a three-game skid, most recently an 82-57 road loss to Texas Southern. The Tigers’ offense runs through dynamic guard Daeshun Ruffin, who is coming off a 28-point, 6-assist performance in an overtime loss at Prairie View on Feb. 26. Ruffin has scored 25 or more points in four of his last six outings. While Arkansas-Pine Bluff holds the better overall record and won the previous matchup handily, both teams have struggled for consistency in conference play. The Golden Lions are 3-3 in their last six games, while the Tigers are 2-4 in the same span. The game will be the final home contest of the season for Jackson State, which could provide an emotional lift. Arkansas-Pine Bluff will look to leverage its interior presence and Scott’s scoring to complete a season sweep. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EST Tuesday in a SWAC conference matchup.
