Preview: Texas Tech Hosts TCU in Critical Big 12 Clash LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season Big 12 Conference men’s basketball matchup is set for Tuesday afternoon as the Texas Tech Red Raiders host the TCU Horned Frogs at United Spirit Arena. Texas Tech (22-7, 11-5 Big 12) enters on a strong note, having won five of its last six games, including an 82-73 road victory at Iowa State on Saturday. The Red Raiders boast one of the league’s top home records at 14-2 this season. TCU (19-10, 8-8) has also found momentum, winning four of its last five, most recently a 77-68 win at Kansas State. The Horned Frogs are looking to bolster their NCAA Tournament resume with a signature road win. The game features two of the conference’s standout performers. TCU will rely on forward Xavier Edmonds, who is averaging 17.1 points and 7.4 rebounds over his last seven games, including a 26-point, 10-rebound effort in a win over Kansas State on Feb. 7. Texas Tech counters with guard Donovan Atwell, a consistent scoring threat who has reached double figures in eight consecutive games. Atwell poured in 26 points in a blowout win over Kansas State on Feb. 21 and leads the team in minutes played. In the first meeting this season on Jan. 10, Texas Tech edged TCU 89-88 in Fort Worth behind 24 points from Atwell. Edmonds scored 21 for the Horned Frogs in that loss. For Texas Tech, a win would solidify its standing near the top of the conference. For TCU, a victory would provide a crucial Quadrant 1 win and move them closer to .500 in the rigorous Big 12 schedule. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
