LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The Louisville Cardinals, seeking to solidify their NCAA tournament resume, will host the Syracuse Orange in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at the KFC Yum! Center. Louisville (20-9, 10-6 ACC) enters the contest looking to rebound from a narrow 80-75 road loss at Clemson this past Saturday. The Cardinals have been strong at home this season and boast a potent offense, evidenced by a 118-point outburst against North Carolina State earlier this month. A key contributor has been forward Sananda Fru, who is coming off a 10-point, two-assist, two-block performance against Clemson. Over his last eight games, Fru has shown versatility, averaging 8.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per contest. Syracuse (14-14, 5-11) arrives in Kentucky on a four-game losing skid, including an 88-83 defeat at Wake Forest on Saturday. The Orange have struggled defensively during the stretch, allowing an average of 88.3 points per game. Their fortunes will largely rest with standout forward Donnie Freeman, who is amid a stellar individual season. Freeman exploded for 28 points in 35 minutes against Wake Forest and has scored 16 or more points in five of his last eight games, including a 23-point effort at North Carolina and an 18-point, five-rebound, four-block performance in a win over SMU. The Cardinals won the season’s first meeting, an 85-70 victory at the JMA Wireless Dome on Jan. 10. In that game, Louisville’s defense held Syracuse to 38.7% shooting from the field. Tuesday’s game represents a critical juncture for both teams. Louisville aims to enhance its seeding for March Madness, while Syracuse, sitting at .500, needs a signature road win to build any late-season momentum for postseason consideration. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
