BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — A critical late-season Mountain West clash awaits Tuesday when the San Diego State Aztecs visit the Boise State Broncos at Taco Bell Arena. Both teams enter March looking to solidify their postseason résumés. San Diego State (19-9) aims to rebound from a 76-81 road loss at New Mexico last Saturday. The Aztecs had won three straight prior to that defeat. Boise State (18-11) rides a three-game winning streak, including a 69-53 victory at Fresno State on Saturday. The matchup features two of the conference’s top performers. San Diego State guard Miles Byrd has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 12.6 points over his last seven games. He scored 17 points in the loss to New Mexico. For the Broncos, guard Javan Buchanan is coming off a career-high 26 points against Fresno State and has averaged 17.1 points during the same seven-game stretch. Their last meeting was an instant classic. On Jan. 3 in San Diego, the Aztecs outlasted the Broncos 110-107 in triple-overtime. That result will undoubtedly be on the minds of both squads. San Diego State holds a slim edge in the overall standings, but Boise State boasts a strong 12-3 record at home this season. The Broncos’ offense has been potent, scoring 84 or more points in three of their last five contests. The Aztecs will counter with a defense that has held opponents under 60 points twice in February. With only a few games remaining before the conference tournament, Tuesday’s result carries significant weight for seeding and potential NCAA Tournament at-large consideration. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MST at Taco Bell Arena.
