NEW YORK (Interstat) — A surging Saint John’s team will look to solidify its postseason credentials when it hosts a struggling Georgetown squad in a Big East Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm (23-6, 13-5 Big East) enter the regular-season finale riding high after a dominant 89-57 victory over Villanova on Saturday. That win, fueled by a 16-point, 10-assist, three-block performance from forward Zuby Ejiofor, showcased the form that has made Saint John’s a lock for the NCAA tournament. Ejiofor has been a force, averaging 15.3 points, 5.6 assists and 2.3 blocks over his last eight games. Meanwhile, Georgetown (13-16, 5-13) aims to halt a six-game losing streak. The Hoyas fell 91-84 at Xavier on Saturday despite 17 points from guard Malik Mack. Mack, Georgetown’s primary offensive threat, has averaged 13.4 points and 3.3 assists during the skid but has struggled with consistency from the field. The matchup pits one of the conference’s hottest teams against its coldest. Saint John’s has won 10 of its last 12, including an 81-72 triumph over then-Connecticut earlier this month. Georgetown’s last win came on Feb. 4 against Creighton, which was also the last time Mack scored 20 points. Saint John’s won the first meeting this season, 95-83, in Washington on Dec. 31. The Red Storm’s balanced attack and defensive pressure, ranking among the Big East leaders in steals and blocks, will challenge a Georgetown team that has lost its last three games by an average of 7.7 points. For Georgetown, containing Ejiofor in the paint and finding secondary scoring beyond Mack will be critical. For Saint John’s, avoiding a letdown against a conference rival before its final road game at Seton Hall on Friday is the priority. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.
