KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Interstat) ā Two menās basketball teams seeking momentum at the end of difficult seasons will meet Tuesday when Western Michigan hosts Ball State in a Mid-American Conference matchup. The game at University Arena pits the Broncos (9-18) against the Cardinals (10-19) in a battle of teams near the bottom of the league standings. Both squads enter with identical 5-11 records in MAC play. Ball State arrives with confidence after a dominant 79-43 road victory at Northern Illinois on Saturday. The Cardinalsā backcourt led the way, with guard Davion Hill scoring 17 points and dishing seven assists. Armoni Zeigler added 13 points and six assists. Hill has been a consistent bright spot for Ball State. The guard is averaging 17.1 points over his last eight games, including a 26-point performance in an overtime win over Massachusetts on Feb. 24. Western Michigan looks to bounce back from a narrow 69-67 home loss to Miami (Ohio) last Friday. Forward Jayden Brewer paced the Broncos with 19 points in that contest. Brewer has been a key contributor, scoring in double figures in seven of his last eight outings, highlighted by a 20-point game at Ohio on Feb. 3. The Broncosā most impressive recent result was an 88-79 road win at Bowling Green on Feb. 24, where they shot 54% from the field. Both teams have struggled for consistency. Ball Stateās win over Northern Illinois snapped a two-game skid, while Western Michigan has dropped three of its last four. The Cardinals won the first meeting this season, 68-67, in Muncie on Jan. 20. Hill scored 15 points in that victory, while Brewer was held to nine points for Western Michigan. Tuesdayās contest is the final regular-season home game for the Broncos. Ball State concludes its regular season at home against Central Michigan on Friday, while Western Michigan travels to Kent State.
