BLACKSBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The Virginia Tech Hokies, looking to solidify their postseason résumé, will host the struggling Boston College Eagles in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday at Cassell Coliseum. Virginia Tech (18-11) enters the regular-season finale coming off a narrow 89-82 road loss at North Carolina on Saturday. The Hokies have won four of their last seven games. Guard Ben Hammond has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 13.7 points and 3.8 assists over his last six contests. He scored 16 points with five assists in the loss to the Tar Heels. Boston College (10-19) aims to halt a late-season slide, having lost eight of its last nine games. The Eagles are coming off a 76-54 defeat at Miami on Saturday. Their lone recent victory was a 68-67 home win over Wake Forest on Feb. 25. The Eagles will lean on forward Boden Kapke, who has provided a scoring spark despite the team’s struggles. Kapke is averaging 13.1 points per game over his last eight outings, including an 18-point performance against Miami. He recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a Feb. 7 loss to the Hurricanes. Virginia Tech won the first meeting this season, defeating Boston College 78-71 in Chestnut Hill on Jan. 10. Hammond led the Hokies with 21 points in that game, while Kapke scored 14 for the Eagles. The Hokies are 12-3 at home this season, while Boston College is 2-9 in true road games. A win would bolster Virginia Tech’s seeding for the upcoming ACC Tournament and strengthen its case for an NCAA Tournament at-large bid. Boston College seeks to play spoiler and build momentum heading into the conference tournament. Following this game, Virginia Tech will close its regular season at rival Virginia on Saturday. Boston College will host Notre Dame the same day.
