JONESBORO, Ark. (Interstat) — Arkansas State looks to solidify its standing near the top of the Sun Belt Conference and complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts struggling Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday night. The Red Wolves (19-11, 11-6 Sun Belt) enter the matchup at Convocation Center riding momentum from a high-scoring 89-84 victory over Southern Mississippi on Tuesday. They have won seven of their last nine games. In contrast, the Ragin’ Cajuns (10-20, 5-12) are reeling from a 78-59 road loss at Troy, their fourth defeat in five outings. Arkansas State handled Louisiana-Lafayette with relative ease just over a week ago, winning 79-62 in Lafayette on Feb. 19. The Red Wolves’ balanced attack, which features four players averaging double figures, overwhelmed the Cajuns. Guard Joey Chammaa, a key bench spark, scored nine points in 11 minutes in that contest and is coming off a 15-point performance against Southern Miss. Louisiana-Lafayette will lean heavily on guard Jaxon Olvera, its most consistent offensive threat. Olvera scored 18 points in the loss to Arkansas State and is averaging 19.3 points over his last three games, including a 20-point effort in a win over Texas State on Feb. 21. However, the Cajuns have struggled defensively, allowing 77.3 points per game during their recent 1-4 slide. For Arkansas State, a victory would secure a winning regular-season record and enhance its seeding for the upcoming Sun Belt tournament. Louisiana-Lafayette, mired near the bottom of the league, is playing for pride and momentum heading into the postseason. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST at Convocation Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
