BUFFALO, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Merrimack team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits struggling Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Friday. The Warriors (20-9) have won seven consecutive games, including a dramatic 88-86 double-overtime victory over Iona on Sunday. In contrast, the Golden Griffins (9-20) have lost eight of their last 10, coming off a 68-47 defeat at Mount Saint Mary’s. The matchup at Koessler Athletic Center pits one of the conference’s hottest players against a home team searching for consistency. Merrimack guard Kevair Kennedy has been instrumental during the streak, averaging 22.6 points and 5.1 assists over the last seven games. He logged 49 minutes in the win over Iona, finishing with 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Canisius will counter with guard Kahlil Singleton, who scored 20 points in a win at Rider on Feb. 20 but was held to 15 in the loss to Mount Saint Mary’s. The Golden Griffins have struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in six of their last eight games. Merrimack’s defense has been a cornerstone of its success, holding opponents to an average of 58.1 points during the seven-game streak. In their last meeting on Jan. 8, the Warriors defeated Canisius 74-65. The Warriors continue to chase a high seed for the upcoming MAAC tournament, while the Golden Griffins aim to salvage momentum in their regular-season home finale. Following this game, Merrimack visits Niagara on Sunday, while Canisius hosts Quinnipiac.
