Preview: Brown Bears at Columbia Lions NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Columbia Lions look to solidify their position in the Ivy League standings and avenge an earlier overtime loss when they host the Brown Bears in a men’s Division I basketball matchup Friday night at Levien Gymnasium. Columbia (15-10) enters the contest looking to rebound from a narrow 64-63 home loss to Dartmouth last Saturday. The Lions had won three of their previous four before that defeat. Brown (8-15) arrives with momentum, coming off an 80-71 victory over Princeton last Friday that snapped a two-game skid. The Jan. 17 meeting between these teams in Providence was a classic, with Brown prevailing 86-80 in overtime. That result will undoubtedly be on the minds of the Lions, who have performed better at home this season and hold a significant advantage in the overall win column. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Brown’s Landon Lewis is coming off a 21-point performance against Princeton and has been a volume scorer, registering 30-point games twice in his last six outings. He averages 21.7 points per game over that stretch and will be the focal point of the Bears’ offense. Columbia will counter with floor general Kenny Noland, who nearly posted a triple-double in the loss to Dartmouth with 17 points, five rebounds and six assists. Noland has shown a balanced scoring and playmaking ability, averaging over 16 points and four assists in his last six games. For Brown, sustaining the offensive efficiency shown against Princeton will be critical. Luke Paragon added 20 points in that win, and Malcolm Wrisby-Jefferson dished out eight assists. Columbia will rely on its interior presence, led by Connor Igoe, who recorded a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) last time out, and Blair Thompson (13 points, eight rebounds). The Lions have struggled recently at Levien, dropping their last two home games by a combined three points. Brown, despite its sub-.500 record, has proven capable of pulling off upsets, as it did against both Columbia and Princeton this season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Friday.
