MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — A surging Wichita State squad looks to solidify its standing when it visits a struggling Memphis team in an American Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup Thursday at FedExForum. The Shockers (18-10, 8-7 AAC) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a 69-57 victory over Temple on Saturday. They have won five of their last seven, largely powered by the explosive scoring of guard Kenyon Giles. Over his last seven games, Giles is averaging 22.1 points, including a 31-point performance against Tulsa and a 27-point outing in the win over Temple. Wichita State defeated Memphis (12-15, 5-10) just over a month ago, 74-59, in Wichita on Jan. 24. In that game, the Shockers held the Tigers to 32.8% shooting from the field. The Tigers have lost four straight since a two-game win streak in early February and are coming off a 78-67 home loss to UAB. Forward Julius Thedford has been a consistent presence, posting a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Charlotte on Feb. 8 and grabbing eight rebounds in the loss to UAB. Memphis will aim to leverage its home court to snap its skid and avenge January’s loss. Wichita State seeks a season sweep to improve its conference tournament seeding and bolster its overall resume. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
