FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) ā A pair of Big South teams seeking momentum for the conference tournament will meet Thursday when the Radford Highlanders host the South Carolina Upstate Spartans at the D.N. Dedmon Center. Radford (15-14) enters the contest looking to rebound from a narrow 74-73 overtime loss at UNC Asheville on Saturday. The Highlanders have been inconsistent in league play but hold a winning record at home. They are led by standout guard Dennis Parker, who has scored 19 or more points in four of his last five games, including a 22-point performance in a win over Gardner-Webb on Feb. 19. South Carolina Upstate (12-17) snapped a three-game skid with a 76-74 home victory over Presbyterian on Saturday. The Spartans have struggled on the road, however, and will aim to carry the confidence from that close win into this matchup. Forward Isaiah Skinner, coming off a 14-point, 7-rebound effort against Presbyterian, will be a key factor. Skinnerās production has fluctuated, but his versatility is central to the Spartansā scheme. The Highlanders won the seasonās first meeting, 76-69, in Spartanburg on Dec. 31. Radford will look to complete the regular-season sweep behind Parkerās scoring punch and a defense that has shown flashes of strength at home. South Carolina Upstate, which has played in several overtime games this season, will need to find scoring beyond Skinner and recent top performers Karmani Gregory and Carmelo Adkins to pull off the road upset. With the Big South Tournament looming, both teams are jockeying for seeding. A win for Radford would solidify its position in the upper half of the standings, while the Spartans are fighting to improve their postseason positioning. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
