The Seawolves (17-11) seek to avenge a narrow 76-75 home loss to the Hawks (14-14) just three weeks ago on Feb. 5. That result is part of a recent surge for Stony Brook, which has won five of its last seven games, including a 79-72 victory over Hampton on Saturday. Stony Brook is powered by guard Erik Pratt, who enters on a scoring tear. He poured in a career-high 34 points against Hampton and averaged 24.3 points over his last three contests. In the first meeting with Monmouth, Pratt scored 22 points. Monmouth has struggled lately, dropping its last two games on the road at UNC Wilmington and College of Charleston. Forward Stefanos Spartalis provides a consistent interior presence, coming off a 13-point, 9-rebound performance at Charleston. He scored 21 points in a Jan. 29 overtime win over North Carolina A&T. The matchup features contrasting trajectories. Stony Brook aims to solidify its position in the conference standings and improve its seeding for the upcoming tournament. Monmouth, sitting at .500, is in need of a resume-building win to climb back to an even conference record and gather momentum for the final stretch. Beyond the Pratt-Spartalis duel, guard play will be critical. Monmouth’s Kavion McClain logged 40 minutes with eight points and six assists in the last outing, while Stony Brook’s Richard Goods is coming off a 15-point, 7-rebound game against Hampton.
