CHENEY, Wash. (Interstat) — A surging Northern Colorado squad looks to solidify its standing when it visits a resurgent Eastern Washington team in a key Big Sky Conference men’s basketball matchup Thursday at Reese Court. The Bears (18-10, 11-4 Big Sky) enter on a seven-game winning streak, their latest a nail-biting 78-77 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday. Eastern Washington (11-17, 8-7) has won five straight, including a 67-55 road win at Portland State, to climb back into conference contention. Northern Colorado won the first meeting this season, 74-71 in Greeley on Jan. 31. A similar result would bolster the Bears’ position near the top of the league standings, while the Eagles aim to avenge the close loss and continue their late-season push. The game features a compelling duel between two of the conference’s hottest players. Northern Colorado is powered by Brock Wisne, who is coming off a career-high 38-point performance. Over his last eight games, the versatile guard has averaged 21.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists, leading the Bears’ charge. Eastern Washington counters with Isaiah Moses, who has spearheaded the Eagles’ turnaround. During their five-game streak, Moses has averaged 18.2 points and 5.6 assists per game, including a 26-point, 9-assist effort in a win at Sacramento State. Northern Colorado’s streak has been marked by offensive efficiency, scoring 80 or more points in four of the wins. Eastern Washington’s run, however, has been fueled by improved defense, holding three of its last five opponents under 75 points. The Bears have shown vulnerability on the road in conference play (4-4), while the Eagles are 6-3 at home in Cheney. Eastern Washington will need that home-court advantage to contain Wisne and disrupt a Northern Colorado offense averaging 79.5 points per game during its streak. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. PST Thursday. Northern Colorado visits Idaho on Saturday, while Eastern Washington hosts Northern Arizona.
