CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — The surging High Point Panthers, owners of the best record in the Big South, aim to continue their dominant season when they visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Thursday, Feb. 26. The Panthers (26-4) enter Templeton Center riding a nine-game winning streak, the latest a narrow 89-87 victory over Winthrop on Saturday. Their last loss was a 92-75 defeat at Winthrop on Jan. 14. High Point’s offense has been potent during this run, scoring 95 or more points in three of the last five games. Presbyterian (14-15) looks to play spoiler and improve its conference standing, coming off a tough 76-74 road loss to South Carolina Upstate. The Blue Hose have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in their last six outings. Their last home game was a 72-65 victory over Longwood on Feb. 19. The matchup features a compelling individual duel. High Point is led by Terry Anderson, who is coming off a 23-point, 11-rebound performance against Winthrop. Over his last eight games, Anderson has averaged 18.6 points, showcasing his scoring consistency. He scored 18 points in the first meeting against Presbyterian this season. The Blue Hose counter with forward Jonah Pierce, who poses a significant interior threat. Pierce recorded a monumental 28-point, 17-rebound effort in a double-overtime loss to Radford on Jan. 31 and scored 25 points against High Point in the Jan. 29 matchup. In that game, Presbyterian pushed the Panthers to the limit before falling 84-81 at High Point. A victory would solidify High Point’s position atop the conference as the regular season concludes. For Presbyterian, a win would provide a major resume boost and a measure of revenge from the narrow loss earlier this year. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Templeton Center.
