JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Florida Gulf Coast team looks to continue its climb in the ASUN standings when it visits struggling North Florida on Thursday night at UNF Arena. The Eagles (14-15) have won three straight and four of their last five, including a 90-81 victory over these same Ospreys on Feb. 11. North Florida (6-23) has lost five consecutive games and seeks to avoid a season sweep. Florida Gulf Coast is coming off a 75-71 overtime win against Central Arkansas on Saturday, fueled by a 23-point performance from guard Jordan Ellerbee. Ellerbee has been instrumental in the Eagles’ recent success, averaging 19.1 points over his last eight games. He scored 22 in the previous meeting with North Florida. The Ospreys, meanwhile, are looking to halt their skid after a 76-71 loss at Stetson. Forward Mason Lee, who had 12 points and nine rebounds in that contest, is a key contributor for North Florida. He posted 13 points against FGCU earlier this month. The matchup features contrasting trajectories. Florida Gulf Coast has found a rhythm in close games, winning its last three by a combined eight points. North Florida has struggled to finish, with three of its last five losses coming by six points or fewer. Thursday’s game is the second of two regular-season meetings. Following this contest, Florida Gulf Coast will travel to face Stetson on Saturday, while North Florida will host Jacksonville. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at UNF Arena.
