Preview: Elon at Towson in Key Colonial Athletic Association Matchup TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Colonial Athletic Association standings will meet when the Towson Tigers host the Elon Phoenix on Thursday afternoon at SECU Arena. Both teams enter the contest with identical 14-14 overall records, adding heightened importance to the league matchup as the regular season winds down. The game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 22 meeting, which Towson won 72-59 on Elon’s home floor. Elon (14-14) seeks to rebound from a difficult 102-82 home loss to North Carolina A&T on Saturday. The Phoenix have lost four of their last five games. Their fortunes often hinge on the performance of guard Bryson Cokley, who is coming off a 19-point effort in 38 minutes against A&T. Cokley has shown high-scoring capability, dropping 29 points in a win at William & Mary on Feb. 14, but his production has been inconsistent recently. Towson (14-14) has also struggled, losing three of its last four, including a 68-62 defeat at Drexel last Sunday. The Tigers rely on forward Jack Doumbia, who posted 14 points and six rebounds in the loss to Drexel. Doumbia recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a blowout win over Hampton on Jan. 31, showcasing his impact on both ends of the floor. In the January matchup, Towson’s defense held Elon to 59 points and 36.2% shooting from the field. Replicating that defensive effort will be a priority for the Tigers. For Elon, improving offensive efficiency and finding secondary scoring behind Cokley, potentially from Chandler Cuthrell (18 points vs. A&T), will be critical. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST Thursday. Towson will host Campbell on Saturday, while Elon travels to face Monmouth.
