Preview: College of Charleston at Hampton HAMPTON, Va. (Interstat) — The College of Charleston Cougars, riding a three-game winning streak, visit the Hampton Pirates in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup Thursday afternoon at the Convocation Center. The Cougars (19-10, 10-6 CAA) have found momentum in late February, coming off a 74-63 home victory over Monmouth last Saturday. They have won five of their last seven contests. Hampton (12-16, 6-10), meanwhile, looks to snap a two-game skid after a 79-72 road loss at Stony Brook. All eyes will be on Charleston forward Christian Reeves, who is playing the best basketball of his season. He is averaging 16.6 points and 8.4 rebounds over his last eight games, including a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double against Monmouth and an 18-point, 15-rebound effort in a win at Campbell on Feb. 15. His interior presence has been a catalyst for the Cougars’ recent surge. Hampton will counter with guard Michael Eley, who scored 17 points in 18 minutes off the bench in the loss to Stony Brook. The Pirates will need a more consistent offensive performance after being held under 45 points in a lopsided loss to Hofstra on Feb. 19. The teams met earlier this season in Charleston, with the Cougars securing a narrow 74-70 victory on Jan. 10. In that game, Hampton rallied from a double-digit deficit but fell short. Charleston, currently third in the CAA standings, is jockeying for postseason positioning with the conference tournament looming. A road win would solidify its standing. Hampton, sitting near the bottom of the league, aims to play spoiler and build positive momentum heading into its final regular-season games. The Cougars’ next game is at UNC Wilmington on Saturday. Hampton hosts Northeastern on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
