JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Interstat) — A key Southern Conference rematch with postseason implications is set for Wednesday when the East Tennessee State Buccaneers host the Wofford Terriers at ETSU Athletic Center. The Buccaneers (21-8, 12-4 SoCon), riding a three-game winning streak, look to solidify their conference standing and complete a regular-season sweep of the Terriers. ETSU won the first meeting 86-72 in Spartanburg on Feb. 1, part of a dominant stretch where they have won eight of their last ten games. Wofford (18-11, 9-7), meanwhile, aims to steady itself after a 76-67 home loss to Furman last Saturday snapped a two-game win streak. The Terriers, currently in the middle of the conference table, need a signature road victory to bolster their resume ahead of the league tournament. The matchup features two of the conference’s top scorers. ETSU is powered by guard Brian Taylor, who is coming off a 25-point performance in a win at UNC Greensboro. Over his last five games, Taylor has averaged 20.2 points, including a 28-point outing in an overtime loss to Samford. Wofford will counter with high-scoring guard Kahmare Holmes. Holmes has been on a tear, averaging 18.7 points over his last three contests. He scored 22 points in a win over Virginia Military Institute and poured in 20 against Furman despite the loss. His backcourt play will be critical for the Terriers’ chances. The Buccaneers have been strong at home, boasting a 12-2 record at ETSU Athletic Center this season. Wofford has struggled on the road in conference play, with recent double-digit losses at Samford and UNC Greensboro. A win for ETSU would keep pressure on the league leaders, while a Wofford victory would provide a crucial quadrant-two road win and season split. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
