Preview: San Diego Toreros at Oregon State Beavers CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon State Beavers will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their position above .500 when they host the San Diego Toreros in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers (15-14) enter the contest having won three of their last four, including an 83-73 victory over Pepperdine on Feb. 21. Oregon State’s recent success has been fueled by guard Josiah Lake, who is coming off an 18-point, eight-assist performance in that win. Lake was instrumental in the first meeting with San Diego, logging 41 minutes and contributing 12 points, eight assists and two blocks in a 78-76 overtime victory on Jan. 31. San Diego (11-18) seeks to halt a three-game skid and avenge the narrow home overtime loss to the Beavers from earlier this season. The Toreros are coming off a 77-65 home loss to Loyola Marymount on Feb. 21. Their fortunes will likely hinge on the play of guard Adrian McIntyre, who scored 21 points and dished six assists in the first matchup against Oregon State. McIntyre led San Diego with 18 points in the recent loss to Loyola Marymount. The Jan. 31 contest in San Diego was a tightly fought affair, requiring an extra period before Oregon State secured the two-point win. That result is indicative of a Toreros team that has struggled to close out games, with five of their last nine losses coming by single digits or in overtime. For Oregon State, a win would provide momentum heading into a road game at Santa Clara on Saturday. The Beavers have shown a pattern of responding to losses with wins, having not dropped consecutive games since late January. Beyond Lake, contributions from players like Keziah Ekissi (15 points vs. Pepperdine) will be key. San Diego, which travels to Portland after this game, must find consistency on both ends of the floor. The Toreros have allowed an average of 81.5 points in their last four losses. Containing Lake and improving late-game execution will be paramount if they are to upset the Beavers on their home court. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. PST Wednesday.
