Struggling SEC Teams Seek Reset as LSU Visits Mississippi OXFORD, Miss. (Interstat) — Two men’s basketball teams mired in lengthy Southeastern Conference slides will look to reverse their fortunes when the LSU Tigers visit the Mississippi Rebels on Wednesday night at The Pavilion at Ole Miss. LSU (14-13) arrives having lost five consecutive games, most recently a 90-83 home defeat to then-Alabama last Saturday. Mississippi (11-16) has fared even worse, dropping its last seven contests, including a 94-75 loss to Florida on the same day. The matchup pits a pair of programs desperate for a conference win to build momentum before next month’s SEC tournament. Despite their records, both teams feature dynamic individual talents capable of taking over a game. For LSU, guard Jalen Reece has been a bright spot during the skid. He is averaging 12.3 points and 5.7 assists over his last three outings, including a 14-point, 9-assist performance in a narrow 88-85 loss at Texas. He will be supported by forward Marquel Sutton, who scored 21 points against Alabama. Mississippi will counter with the hot hand of forward Malik Dia. He has erupted offensively in recent weeks, scoring 20 or more points in three of his last four appearances. Dia poured in a career-high 32 points against Mississippi State on Feb. 14 and followed with 24 points and six rebounds against Florida. The Rebels will need that production to combat an LSU team that has shown fight in close losses but has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 85.2 points during its five-game losing streak. Historically, LSU has dominated the series, winning 12 of the last 15 meetings. However, both teams’ current trajectories suggest another tightly contested, high-stakes February battle in the SEC. Wednesday’s winner will gain a crucial respite from its recent frustrations, while the loser will be left to search for answers with the regular season winding down.
