Preview: Kansas State Wildcats at Colorado Buffaloes BOULDER, Colo. (Interstat) — The Colorado Buffaloes look to build momentum for a late-season push when they host the struggling Kansas State Wildcats in a Big 12 Conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Coors Events Center. Colorado (15-12) enters the game coming off an 83-69 home victory over Oklahoma State last Saturday. The Buffaloes have shown inconsistency but remain in the middle of the conference pack, seeking to improve their postseason positioning with three regular-season games remaining. Kansas State (11-16) aims to halt a prolonged skid, having lost seven of its last eight games. The Wildcats are coming off a 100-72 road loss at Texas Tech this past Saturday. Their lone win in that stretch was a 90-74 upset of Baylor on Feb. 17. A key matchup will feature the teams’ standout guards. Colorado is led by Barrington Hargress, who is coming off a versatile 16-point, 8-assist performance against Oklahoma State. He has averaged 15.7 points over his last three games. Kansas State will rely on the dynamic play of Nate Johnson, who has been a bright spot during the team’s difficult stretch. Johnson erupted for 33 points and 9 assists in the win over Baylor and followed with a 15-point effort at Texas Tech. His ability to score and facilitate will be critical for the Wildcats’ chances. For Colorado, forward Bangot Dak provides an interior presence, posting 17 points and 7 rebounds in the last outing. For Kansas State, support for Johnson has come from PJ Haggerty (17 points vs. Texas Tech) and forward Taj Manning, who added 10 points and 3 blocks in that loss. The Buffaloes won the first meeting this season, 77-68, in Manhattan on Jan. 10. Colorado holds a 15-12 overall season record, while Kansas State seeks to climb out of the conference cellar at 11-16. Wednesday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. MST. Colorado travels to Houston on Saturday, while Kansas State hosts TCU on Feb. 28.
