CARBONDALE, Ill. (Interstat) — The Southern Illinois Salukis will look to continue their late-season push and complete a regular-season sweep when they host the struggling Indiana State Sycamores in a Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday night. The Salukis (14-15, 8-8 MVC) enter SIU Arena having won three of their last four, including a gritty 59-57 road victory at Northern Iowa last Saturday. Guard Quel’Ron House has been instrumental, averaging 18.2 points over his last five games. He scored 14 points and dished five assists in the first meeting with Indiana State, a dominant 80-65 home win for the Salukis on Feb. 9. Southern Illinois has found a rhythm defensively, holding opponents under 70 points in four consecutive games. Drew Steffe, who had 14 points against Northern Iowa, provides secondary scoring alongside House. Indiana State (10-19, 4-12) arrives mired in a six-game losing streak, most recently an 87-70 defeat at Belmont. During the skid, the Sycamores have struggled to close out contests, with four losses coming by six points or fewer. Guard Ian Scott has been a consistent bright spot for the Sycamores, scoring in double figures in eight straight games. He tallied 13 points in the first matchup against Southern Illinois. Bruno Alocen, who had seven assists against Belmont, will be tasked with facilitating the offense against the Salukis’ pressure. The Sycamores’ defense will be under scrutiny, as they have allowed an average of 81.2 points per game during their losing streak. Containing House and disrupting Southern Illinois’s offensive flow will be paramount to snapping the slide. A win would bolster Southern Illinois’s seeding for the upcoming MVC Tournament and move them closer to a .500 season. For Indiana State, the game represents a critical opportunity to halt its downturn and build momentum before the postseason. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
