Preview: Wake Forest Looks to Bounce Back at Struggling Boston College NEWTON, Mass. (Interstat) — Wake Forest aims to steady its postseason aspirations Tuesday afternoon when it visits a reeling Boston College team in Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball action. The Demon Deacons (14-13, 5-10 ACC) arrive at Silvio O. Conte Forum following a deflating 82-63 loss at Virginia Tech on Saturday. The setback halted a modest three-game winning streak for Wake Forest, which sits in the middle of the conference standings but remains outside most projected NCAA Tournament fields. Boston College (9-18, 2-13) has lost seven consecutive games, last winning on Jan. 21 against Pittsburgh. The Eagles are coming off a 94-70 road loss to SMU, part of a season-long struggle in ACC play where they hold the league’s worst record. A key matchup will feature Wake Forest’s high-scoring guard Juke Harris against Boston College’s Fred Payne. Harris has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 22.7 points over his last seven games, including a 31-point performance against North Carolina State on Jan. 31. He scored 16 points in the loss to Virginia Tech. Payne has been a bright spot for the Eagles during their skid, scoring in double figures in 12 straight games. He is averaging 16.4 points per game in that stretch and poured in 22 points in a recent loss at Florida State. Wake Forest won the season’s first meeting, 78-70, in Winston-Salem on Jan. 3. Harris led the Demon Deacons with 24 points in that contest, while Payne was held to 10 for Boston College. For Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes, the focus is on rediscovering the defensive intensity that fueled its mid-February wins over Clemson, Stanford and Georgia Tech. Boston College coach Earl Grant will look to his team to protect the home court, where the Eagles are 7-8 this season compared to a 2-10 mark on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network. Wake Forest hosts Syracuse next on Saturday. Boston College travels to face Miami (Fla.) on the same day.
