DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Atlantic 10’s top team puts its lofty record on the line Tuesday when Saint Louis visits the University of Dayton Arena for a rematch with the Dayton Flyers. The Billikens (25-2, 14-1 A-10), whose only conference loss came at Rhode Island on Feb. 17, have dominated the league behind a high-powered offense. They average 86.5 points per game, ranking fourth nationally. Their most recent outing was an 88-75 win over VCU last Friday, led by 16 points from guard Kellen Thames. Dayton (18-8, 10-5) seeks redemption after a humbling 102-71 defeat at Saint Louis on Jan. 30. The Flyers have since won four of five, including a 78-66 victory over Duquesne on Saturday where forward Amael L’Etang posted 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. L’Etang is Dayton’s key catalyst, averaging 17.4 points and 6.2 rebounds over his last five games. Containing him will be a priority for a Saint Louis defense that allows just 66.2 points per contest. For the Billikens, Thames provides a spark off the bench. The guard scored 16 points in 16 minutes against VCU and had 15 points in the Jan. 27 win over George Washington. His efficiency will be crucial against a Dayton team that is 12-2 at home this season. The Flyers’ arena is one of the nation’s most formidable home-court advantages, presenting Saint Louis with its toughest remaining road test. A Dayton win would bolster its NCAA tournament rĂ©sumĂ©, while Saint Louis aims to solidify its hold on the conference regular-season title and a protected NCAA seed. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
