Preview: San Jose State at Air Force AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to escape the Mountain West Conference cellar will meet Tuesday when the Air Force Falcons host the San Jose State Spartans at Clune Arena. Both programs enter the late-season matchup mired in lengthy losing streaks. San Jose State (7-20, 3-11 MWC) has dropped five of its last six, including an 84-69 road loss to Boise State on Saturday. Air Force (3-24, 0-14) carries the burden of a 14-game skid, most recently a 91-66 home defeat to UNLV on the same day. The game represents one of the dwindling opportunities for either squad to build momentum before the conference tournament. The Falcons, still searching for their first league win, will look to defend their home floor, while the Spartans aim to complete a season sweep. San Jose State secured a 70-62 victory in the first meeting on Jan. 13 in California. In that game, the Spartans overcame a combined 38 points from Air Force’s Kam Sanders and Lucas Hobin. The Spartans will lean on forward Adrian Myers, who is coming off a 23-point, 8-rebound performance against Boise State. Myers has been inconsistent but remains a key offensive piece, scoring 21 points in a win over Nevada on Feb. 17. Air Force’s hopes rest heavily on guard Kam Sanders, who nearly posted a triple-double with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists against UNLV. Sanders has been a bright spot during the Falcons’ difficult season, averaging 15.4 points and 7.4 assists over his last five contests. Beyond the individual matchups, the game will be a test of which team can find consistent offense. Both rank near the bottom of the conference in scoring and field goal percentage. Turnovers and defensive lapses have plagued each side throughout the year. For Air Force, ending the historic losing streak at home would provide a late-season boost. For San Jose State, a road win would solidify its position above the Falcons and offer a positive step before hosting Colorado State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Tuesday.
