HALDEMAN, Ky. (Interstat) — A surging Morehead State Eagles squad will look to solidify its standing when it hosts the struggling Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at E.T. Johnson Arena. The game pits two teams on divergent paths in the final stretch of the regular season. Morehead State (17-12 overall) enters with momentum, having won five of its last six games, including a decisive 81-59 road victory at Western Illinois last Saturday. The home Eagles have found consistency behind junior forward Jon Carroll, who is averaging 17.3 points over his last three contests. He scored 22 points in a win over Tennessee Tech on Feb. 12 and followed with 18 points and nine rebounds against Tennessee State on Feb. 14. Conversely, Southern Indiana (7-20) has lost eight of its last ten, though it is coming off a narrow 70-68 road win at Eastern Illinois. The Screaming Eagles will rely heavily on forward Ola Ajiboye, who turned in a dominant performance in that victory with 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in 36 minutes. Ajiboye’s recent form has been a bright spot, averaging 12.5 points and 3.0 blocks over the last two games. The teams’ first meeting this season was a tightly contested affair, with Morehead State escaping Evansville, Ind., with a 64-60 overtime win on Dec. 20. That result is indicative of the competitive nature of the series, despite the disparity in their current records. For Morehead State, the focus remains on securing a favorable seed for the upcoming OVC tournament. A win would mark its sixth victory in seven games and continue its strong play at home, where it is 10-3 this season. Southern Indiana, seeking to build on its recent road win, faces the challenge of containing Carroll and the Morehead State offense while finding scoring support for Ajiboye. Guard Amaree Brown, who poured in 22 points against Eastern Illinois, will be a key factor. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Tuesday. Morehead State will travel to face Arkansas-Little Rock on Thursday, while Southern Indiana’s next game is at Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
