TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Florida State squad will look to continue its late-season push and complete a regular-season sweep of its in-state rival when it hosts Miami on Tuesday afternoon in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball clash at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Seminoles (14-13, 8-8 ACC), winners of four of their last five, have found momentum behind the explosive scoring of guard Robert McCray V. He is averaging 22.1 points over his last seven games, including a 29-point performance in Saturday’s 70-65 road win at Clemson. His hot streak has lifted a Florida State team that was below .500 just three weeks ago. They face a significant challenge in the Hurricanes (21-6, 11-5), who remain in contention for the ACC regular-season title despite a narrow 86-83 road loss at Virginia last Saturday. Miami, led by versatile forward Shelton Henderson, has won seven of its last nine. Henderson has been consistently productive, averaging 14.9 points and 5.0 rebounds over the last eight contests. The January meeting in Coral Gables provides the backdrop for this rematch. On Jan. 20, Florida State escaped with a 65-63 victory, handing the Hurricanes one of their two home losses this season. That result snapped a three-game winning streak for Miami in the series. For the Seminoles, a win would secure a winning record in ACC play and bolster their case for postseason consideration. For the Hurricanes, avenging the earlier loss is crucial to keeping pace near the top of the conference standings. The matchup features a contrast in styles. Miami, one of the ACC’s most efficient offensive teams, will test a Florida State defense that has held three of its last five opponents under 70 points. Containing McCray will be the primary defensive focus for Miami, while the Seminoles must find an answer for Henderson’s inside-outside game and a deep Hurricanes rotation. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Following this game, Miami will host Boston College on Saturday, while Florida State travels to face Georgia Tech.
