Preview: Marquette Golden Eagles at Georgetown Hoyas WASHINGTON (Interstat) â Two Big East teams looking to halt slides will meet Tuesday night when the Georgetown Hoyas host the Marquette Golden Eagles at Capital One Arena. Georgetown (13-14 overall) has lost four consecutive games, most recently a 51-47 defensive struggle at Seton Hall on Saturday. The Hoyasâ offense has stagnated during the skid, failing to reach 80 points in any of the four losses after doing so in their previous three wins. Marquette (9-18) arrives on a three-game losing streak following a 76-70 home loss to Saint Johnâs on Feb. 18. The Golden Eagles have struggled to close out tight contests, with five of their last seven losses coming by single digits. The matchup will feature a compelling duel at guard between two of the conferenceâs top scorers. Marquetteâs Nigel James enters in stellar form, averaging 19.5 points and 5.8 assists over his last six games. He erupted for 30 points and 12 assists in a narrow loss at Xavier on Feb. 14 and scored 25 in the loss to Saint Johnâs. Georgetown will counter with Malik Mack, who has been inconsistent lately but remains a focal point. After scoring 20 or more points in wins over Creighton and Villanova in late January and early February, Mack has been held under 10 points in two of the Hoyasâ last three outings. His playmaking will be critical against Marquetteâs pressure. The Hoyas won the seasonâs first meeting, 78-69, in Milwaukee on Dec. 17. Georgetown has found a measure of success at home in conference play, including a win over then-ranked Creighton on Feb. 4. For Marquette, finding secondary scoring behind James is paramount. Chase Ross and Royce Parham have shown flashes, but consistency has been an issue for a team that ranks near the bottom of the Big East in scoring defense. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Georgetown will visit Xavier on Saturday, while Marquetteâs next game is at home against DePaul on March 1.
