SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) ā A surging Iowa State looks to rebound from a rare setback when it visits struggling Utah in a menās NCAA Division I basketball game Tuesday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Cyclones (23-4), among the nationās elite this season, saw a four-game win streak snapped in a 79-69 road loss at BYU on Saturday. Despite the defeat, guard Tamin Lipsey continued his strong play, scoring 19 points. The junior has been a consistent force, averaging 13.6 points, 4.9 assists and 4.1 rebounds over his last seven contests, including a 16-point, 9-assist effort in a rout of Kansas State. Utah (10-17) has found the season a struggle, but arrives home after splitting a two-game road trip. The Utes fell 73-71 to UCF last Saturday despite 21 points from guard Terrence Brown. The sophomore has provided a bright spot, scoring 20 or more points in three of his last seven games, including a 21-point performance against UCF. The matchup pits one of the nationās top defenses in Iowa State against a Utah team that has had difficulty scoring consistently in conference play. The Cyclones have held opponents under 70 points in 20 of their 27 games this season. Utah, conversely, has been held under 70 points in five of its last seven outings. Iowa Stateās balance will be a key challenge for the Utes. In the loss to BYU, Joshua Jefferson added 13 points and seven assists, while Jamarion Batemon contributed 14 points off the bench. For Utah to pull an upset, they will need more scoring support for Brown. Don McHenry (19 points vs. UCF) and Keanu Dawes (15 points vs. UCF) have shown capability but will need to produce against a stout Cyclone defense. This game begins a critical final stretch for both teams. Iowa State, firmly in the hunt for a high NCAA tournament seed, visits Arizona next Monday. Utah, seeking to build momentum for the conference tournament, travels to Arizona State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Tuesday.
