ATLANTA (Interstat) — A surging Coastal Carolina team looks to solidify its standing when it visits struggling Georgia State in a Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at GSU Sports Arena. The Chanticleers (17-12) enter on a strong run, having won four of their last five games, including a 79-75 victory over Marshall on Saturday. The Panthers (10-19) have lost seven of their last nine, most recently an 80-65 home defeat to James Madison. Coastal Carolina’s success has been fueled by guard RaSheed Jones, who is coming off a career-high 29-point performance against Marshall. Over his last seven games, Jones is averaging 14.9 points and 4.3 assists, showcasing his dual-threat capability. He will be supported by center Nadjrick Peat, who recorded a triple-double of 13 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks in the win over the Thundering Herd. Georgia State will counter with guard Micah Tucker, its leading offensive threat. Tucker has scored 15 or more points in five of his last seven outings, including a 22-point effort in the loss to James Madison. Forward Jelani Hamilton, who added 19 points and six rebounds in that game, provides a key secondary scoring option. The Panthers won the first meeting this season decisively, 89-71, in Conway on Jan. 3. Coastal Carolina will seek to avenge that loss and continue its push up the conference standings, while Georgia State aims to salvage a split of the season series and build momentum before its home finale. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The Chanticleers travel to face James Madison next, while the Panthers host Old Dominion on Friday.
