Top-10 Showdown Set for Allen Fieldhouse as Houston Visits Kansas LAWRENCE, Kan. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big 12 Conference clash with national seeding implications is set for Monday night when the Houston Cougars visit the Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse. Both powerhouse programs are looking to rebound from weekend losses that snapped significant winning streaks. Houston (23-4, 11-3 Big 12) saw its seven-game win streak end with a 73-66 home loss to Arizona on Saturday. Kansas (20-7, 9-5) had a three-game streak halted in an 84-68 defeat to Cincinnati the same day. The matchup features a compelling contrast in styles. Houston, the nation’s top-rated defensive unit, will test its stifling pressure against a Kansas offense that thrives at home. The Cougars’ defense will focus on containing Kansas center Flory Bidunga, who is averaging a double-double in conference play. Bidunga is coming off an 18-point, 12-rebound performance against Cincinnati and leads the Big 12 in blocked shots. Houston’s offense runs through guard Kingston Flemings, who has scored in double figures in seven of his last eight games. He posted 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the loss to Arizona. His backcourt leadership will be critical in one of college basketball’s most hostile environments. Kansas has dominated at home this season, with its only conference loss at Allen Fieldhouse coming against Baylor in January. The Jayhawks will need a strong response after Saturday’s 16-point loss, their most lopsided of the season. Houston won the first meeting this season, 78-65, on Jan. 10 in Houston. A Kansas victory would secure a season split and tighten the conference race, while a Houston win would solidify its hold on first place. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST Monday. The game will be televised on ESPN.
