Preview: UAB Looks to Avenge Earlier Loss at Memphis MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — The UAB Blazers will seek to even the season series and bolster their postseason résumé when they visit the Memphis Tigers in an American Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup Sunday at FedExForum. UAB (17-10) enters with the stronger overall record but is looking for payback after an 90-80 home loss to Memphis on Feb. 5. The Blazers are coming off a 76-71 road victory at Temple on Wednesday, powered by a standout performance from guard Chance Westry. Westry, the focal point of the UAB offense, scored 24 points and dished out eight assists in that win. Over his last seven games, he is averaging 15.4 points and 5.7 assists, including a 22-point, 9-assist effort in a win over Rice on Feb. 8. His playmaking will be critical against Memphis’ pressure. The Tigers (12-14) have struggled lately, losing four of their last five games. They are coming off an 87-66 defeat at South Florida on Thursday. Guard Curtis Givens led Memphis with 12 points and five assists in that contest. In the Feb. 5 win over UAB, Givens contributed eight points and three assists. Memphis won the first meeting by shooting 50% from the field and outscoring UAB 48-34 in the paint. Containing Tigers forward Aaron Bradshaw, who had 12 points in just eight minutes in the last game, will be a key adjustment for the Blazers’ defense. For UAB, consistent support for Westry will be essential. Jacob Meyer added 18 points against Temple, and similar secondary scoring will be needed on the road. The Tigers aim to salvage a split of their two-game season series and build momentum for the final stretch of conference play. A win for UAB would solidify its position in the upper tier of the AAC standings. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon.
