ALBANY, N.Y. (Interstat) — A key Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rematch is set for Sunday when the Siena Saints host the Saint Peter’s Peacocks at Times Union Center. The Saints (18-9, 11-5 MAAC), currently second in the conference standings, seek to avenge a 70-65 road loss to the Peacocks on Feb. 7 and solidify their positioning for the upcoming conference tournament. The Peacocks (15-9, 10-6 MAAC), sitting just behind in the standings, aim for a regular-season sweep that would significantly tighten the race. Siena enters with momentum from a 67-63 road win at Marist on Sunday, led by a season-high 19 points from forward Antonio Chandler. The sophomore, a player to watch, was held to 12 points in the first meeting with Saint Peter’s. He will be central to Siena’s effort to improve its offensive efficiency after shooting just 38% from the field in the February loss. Saint Peter’s counters with its own defensive stalwart in forward Zaakir Williamson. The junior is coming off a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Fairfield. In the victory over Siena earlier this month, Williamson contributed 10 points and four rebounds. His rim protection and activity will be crucial against a Siena frontcourt that includes Chandler and Gavin Doty, who had 15 points and seven rebounds against Marist. The Peacocks have won three of their last four, while Siena has dropped two of its last three, including the loss to Saint Peter’s and a home defeat to Quinnipiac. Both teams feature balanced scoring; Saint Peter’s saw TJ Robinson score 21 points against Fairfield, while Siena’s Justice Shoats averages 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. Siena next travels to Fairfield on Friday, Feb. 27. Saint Peter’s will host Manhattan on the same date.
