POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Marist Red Foxes look to solidify their position in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings when they host the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Sunday at McCann Recreation Center. Marist (16-10) enters the contest looking to rebound from a 67-63 home loss to Siena last Sunday, which snapped a two-game winning streak. The Red Foxes have been strong at home this season, boasting a 10-3 record in Poughkeepsie. Forward Jason Schofield has been a consistent contributor, averaging 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He is coming off a 13-point, 7-rebound performance against Siena. Sacred Heart (12-16) arrives with momentum after winning two straight, including an 86-75 victory over Rider last Sunday. The Pioneers are led by standout forward Anquan Hill, who is averaging 22.4 points and 6.1 rebounds over his last seven games. Hill scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a loss at Manhattan on Feb. 7 and posted 21 points and nine rebounds in the win over Rider. This is the second meeting between the teams this season. Marist won the first matchup 76-72 at Sacred Heart on Jan. 9. The Red Foxes have won four of the last five games in the series. For Marist, a win would help maintain its hold on a top-four conference seeding with the MAAC tournament approaching. The Red Foxes’ defense, which allows just 66.2 points per game at home, will be tested by Hill and a Sacred Heart offense that has averaged 81.3 points during its two-game win streak. Sacred Heart, seeking to climb out of the bottom half of the league, will need another high-scoring effort from Hill and support from guards like Dashon Gittens, who had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists against Rider. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. Marist’s next game is at home against Saint Peter’s on March 1. Sacred Heart hosts Mount Saint Mary’s on Feb. 27.
